As parents of young children, there are always so many things to consider when it involves their safety. Driving them in the car is one such area, especially when it comes to the use of Child Safety Seats. There are so many factors that come into play. Parents often find themselves asking questions like, “Does the seat face the front or the rear?,” “Did I install this seat correctly?,” “What type of seat is best for the age and weight of my child?” You may also not be aware of the fact that Child Safety Seats expire over time and become unsafe for use.
Bob recently became certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) with SafeKids.org. As a CPST, he can show expecting parents how to correctly install a Child Safety Seat in their vehicle. Child Safety Seats Expire
Did you know that child safety seats expire 5 to 6 years after they have been manufacturered? As they are installed in your vehicle, exposure to the sun and high temperatures causes the pastics in these seats to deteriorate making them unsafe for use. Protective qualities are also compromised if the seat has been in an accident. This means your child is at risk and is one good reason not to purchase a used car seat in a thrift or consignment shop. When you are through using a car safety seat, decommission and recycle it. A search on the internet will alert you to locations for recycling.
